Ceren Sönmez, M.A.


Ceren is a second-year doctoral student in the Clinical Psychology Ph.D. program. Born and raised in Turkey, she received her B.S. in Industrial Engineering from Galatasaray University followed by an M.A. degree in Developmental Psychology from Koç University in her home country. She received her second M.A. degree in Psychology in Education from Teachers College, Columbia University. Ceren has worked at the New York State Psychiatric Institute assisting with research on the correlates of suicidal behavior among patients with borderline personality disorder. Ceren is currently working on a project aiming to scale-up Interpersonal Psychotherapy for Syrian refugees in Lebanon and a data-analysis project investigating suicidal behavior among depressed adults in India. Ceren is passionate about acting, and enjoys yoga, reading, and writing.
